Fields of research

Her main fields of research include: the revival of antiquity, the antiquities collections (Este, Caro, Ludovisi, Borghese, Pamphilj, Chigi, Massimo, Albani) and the roman antiquarian market from the Renaissance to the 20th century. In particular she contributed to define the Spanish collecting (Mendoza, Carpio, Azara, Alba, Despuig, Godoy). Moreover she studies the manuscripts (historical informations, drawings) of scholars of antiquities (P. Ligorio, A.Chacón, F. Bianchini, P. L. Ghezzi, G. Zoega) with the aim to collect unpublished data on the excavations of Rome and Latium vetus (Celium, Aventinum, Hadrianeum, Pompeius’ Theatre) and in the neighbourhood (Tibur, Tusculum, Antium, Gabii, Albanum, Aricia, Lanuvium). The history of the excavations has allowed to associate the antiquities with archaeological sites and to reconstruct the original decorative context. She has also focused her researches on the survival of the antique portraiture from the Renaissance to the Neo-Classicism. Other research interests concern the diffusion and the trasmission of iconographic models and oriental cults in Spain and Italy. At the present day she is director of the project university-sponsored “Oltre Tusculum: collezionismo di antichità, dimore nobiliari, storie di musei. Key-studies” and scientific Partner of two others Spanish projects on: “Itálica adrianea: la Nova Urbs. Análisis arqueológico del paradigma urbano y su evolución, y contrastación del modelo” (University of Sevilla, Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación de España 2017-2020 and “El sarcófago romano en la Península Ibérica.
